Thirty-something writer in Washington, D.C., who found himself wandering through life, looking for some meaning and asking a lot of questions.

I am a very spiritual person, raised Roman Catholic and always turning to my faith when I couldn't find the answers.  Then I started asking a different set of questions.

I stumbled onto this guy named Shakyamuni, and suddenly, things started to make sense.  Fast-forward a couple of years, and I'm beginning to understand why the journey, and not so much the destination, is the real experience.

The rest of the story: I grew up in the rural South (outside of Rock Hill, S.C.), and left as soon as I graduated from high school.  I'm mostly settled down now, living in the city with a wonderful partner and the world's greatest dog, Gaia.

I have a very small core group of friends and lots of acquaintances, but certainly am open to meeting new people who share an appreciation for the “world view” of life – people who I can laugh with and learn from.

Historically, I'm a loner, having spent the better part of my life fending for myself.  Despite that, I've always been very extroverted and outgoing.  My friends and co-workers would describe me as the guy who keeps everyone smiling, and as the person who can find the lighter side of just about any bad situation.

I have watched myself change in profound ways over the last few years.  The most significant event in my life was standing next to my Grandma's bed at a hospice in June 2006 and telling her good-bye.  That day changed me forever, and I haven't looked back since.

My Grandma's last words to me were that I should take care of my partner, so the two of us honored her in September '07 when we were legally married in Toronto.
